Olmert says Israel should give back land
Denver News.Net Monday 29th September, 2008
Ehud Olmert, the outgoing prime minister of Israel, has insisted his country will need to withdraw from lands taken in the 1967 war.
His comments, quoted in the Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, came ahead of the Jewish new year.
Olmert is currently in the prime ministerial position as a caretaker, after resigning two weeks ago.
In his interview, Olmert talked about peace with the Palestinians and the Syrians and said: 'We have to reach an agreement with the Palestinians, the meaning of which is that in practice we will withdraw from almost all the territories, if not all the territories.'
He said: 'We will leave a percentage of these territories in our hands, but will have to give the Palestinians a similar percentage, because without that there will be no peace.'
Israel wants to keep some of the main settlement areas in the West Bank and, in return, the Palestinians want a land swap for territory of equal size and quality within Israel.
Olmert said for peace to be solidified, the land swap would probably include a corridor linking Gaza and the West Bank.
Olmert said an Israeli withdrawal would have to include parts of east Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 war.

Go Olmert
You go Olmert you go. Not only would this give the Palestinians what they say they want. It puts the ball in their court.
I do not agree with the way Israel came to be ..but “Israel exists” based on the UN resolution that created Israel.
Go Olmert!

Justice vs. peace
To Anonymous -
Oh yes, I’ve heard it before - Arabs of Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and other countries are looking for justice. Don’t you think it is exactly the problem? They do not want peace - they want justice ! And not abstract justice - they want Arab justice and that is non negotiable. They perpetuate war and suffering on all sides instead of opting for peace, coexistence and development. The territories occupied in 1967 are held to be exchanged for peace. But until main goal of Arabs is Arab justice instead of negotiated peace, Israel should keep them and try to make Arab leadership to risk going against Arab public opinion with continuing threat of annexing the territories.

“Israel exists” based on the UN resolution that created Israel.
Who gave the UN the right to create a new country on land that was occupied by “foreigners” in the first place? Were the Palestinians consulted on what was to happen with THEIR land, absolutely not, the Jews moved in with the help of the Western Nations who were glad to be rid of all these displaced poor people, (no anti Jew feeling here), but the Palestinians were forcefully shoved north into Lebanon and accross the Jordan river, but that was not enough, now we have an other land-grab with their settlements, so are you surprised the Palestinians
are fighting back?
