Republicans fear Sarah Palin is losing popularity
Denver News.Net Tuesday 30th September, 2008
There are signs that Sarah Palin’s popularity is slipping and evidence that her party is worried about how much help she will be for McCain.
A month after Senator Palin joined John McCain's ticket in a burst of excitement among Republicans, she is heading into a critical debate facing challenges from conservatives about her credentials.
Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, flew to John McCain's ranch in Arizona on Monday for three days of media preparation.
The amount of time and staff power being put into Palin’s public appearance for the forthcoming VP debate with Democrat Joe Biden is in sharp contrast to the less structured preparation that led up to the senator's first debate.
There is concern among McCain's associates that Palin's early triumphs, her well-received convention speech and her drawing of big crowds, has been overtaken by a series of setbacks, creating higher stakes for her in the debate on Thursday with her Democratic rival.
David Frum, a former speechwriter for President Bush, but now a conservative columnist, has said: "I think she has pretty thoroughly and probably irretrievably proven that she is not up to the job of being president of the United States."
Republicans have had to to reconsider their initial assessment that Palin would sharply increase McCain's appeal among women and independent voters.
Her halting interview with Katie Couric on CBS News epecially alarmed many Republicans.
Polling suggests that the number of Americans who think she is not fit to be president has increased since her introduction to the country last month.
A number of conservative columnists and thinkers have publicly turned against her, all of the generally criticizing the Republican VP choice as being out of her depth.

Under what basis do you come to the conclusion that Sarah Palin is sharp and smart? Did she suddenly lose these characteristics when she became to GOP VP nominee? My eyes are open, but I just don’t see it.

There is more to be gained to look at the criticisms originators than to look at the criticised, ms palin.
The poor sods want glamor! glitz! pazazz!, or simply a song and dance routine, the are accustomed to sending the Public! ms. palin seems not highly skilled in delivering the glitz.
While I have not followed here 'record' for Delivery to the People'(Alaskans), and I do not have a yay or nay on her ability to deliver as a result, nothing else said or danced to provides even a clue to her future abilities or lacks.
So far all we have is critic noise, without evidence, without logic, without honest argument.
We have no basis to judge her. Except, her refusal to confront on the record the accusations against her abuse of office charges. That Failure to rule of law government is now part of her known record! Such is a strike out, and a second one in a row in the same game.

Jeez kids...
...we’re throwing up a lot of vitriol here! Do I know Ms. Palin? No. Do I know Mr. Obama? No. The two known faces in this election are Mr. McCain and Mr. Biden. One a non-mainstream, roll-up-your-sleeves, get-something-done-even-if-it-means-compromise conservative; the other a dyed-in-the-wool, true tax-and-spend liberal. Between those two choices, Mr. McCain wins in a walk.
As for the other two? Well, we have a U.S. Senator who has been running for President since, apparently, he was old enough to form conscious thought, and who has accomplished literally zero...again I say zero...as a legislator. He is, however, an accomplished ______ (fill in the blank- a. orator; b. obfuscator; c. pulpit-thumping preacher; d. dresser). On the other hand, we have an Alaska governor- please hold the laughter, it really is a state with real, live citizens- who has been set up to fail like no one before her. The scrutiny of every word, every phrase, every missed fact should be embarrassing us all, rather than emboldening us to jump on the dogpile. Look at Ms. Couric’s questions, for crying out loud! Do you think for a minute that Mr. Biden could have named Mr. Obama’s legislative efforts in Illinois, and pointed out examples of his (Mr. Obama’s) protecting the public good? I mean really, apart from the fact that Mr. Obama doesn’t have any examples (he was, after all, running for Prez even then), Joe’s not going to know that stuff- and Katie’s not going to ask him either! Joe’ll get a pass.
Personally, I’m voting for the PRESIDENTIAL candidates, not the VICE-PRESIDENTIAL candidates. I am not willing to place the bet on Mr. McCain not making it through four years. I am willing to place the bet that not only will he, but he will also provide a “check and balance” to a Democrat-controlled House and Senate. Ms. Palin is not stupid, and it’s condescending, ill-informed, and (frankly) stupid of anyone to say she is. She is sharp, savvy, and I believe quite capable of answering questions that have some meat on their bones.
Barack Obama, I fear, is an inch deep and a nation wide. He has ABSOLUTELY no more experience than Ms. Palin. Yeah, yeah...but he’s a senator! some say. So? So was Warren Harding! But he’s Kennedy-esque! some say. NOT! JFK had life experience unmatched by Mr. Obama, not to mention the fact that JFK would find Mr. Obama’s style of liberalism (not to mention lack of gravitas) appalling. Keep your eye on the ball, folks. The contest is between the heads of the tickets...and the hearts!
P.S. Grow some b****! Put a name on your posts. Anonymous doesn’t cut it.

Out of her league
With or without 'Troopergate', she is not ready to lead. We, the American people, have only two months to get to know this woman. She has to be ready, on day one to lead our nation, which is complete chaos right now. Her record as governor does not fall in line with her party’s so called values. Alaska has very liberal abortion laws, while she was in charge! One being parent consent laws.
One thing this election is about the continuous hypocrisy we have had to stomach for years from these republicans. Getting caught in bathrooms, being unfaithful with hookers, extreme spending, lies (WMDs), unethical behavior (outing CIA agents, Gonzalez) and now this so called pro-life, pro-gun fake who the republicans think will carry them back into the White House.
Oh, and if the media was SO liberal, they would be ripping apart Palin’s pregnant teenager (which we have heard nothing about), unlike Fox News who ripped up Lynn Spears and her parents when she got pregnant.
Enough of the hypocrisy, and let’s fix our country! Vote Dem!

The truth is this is nothing but a smear campaign

The honeymoon is soon to be over and Sarah Palin will have to start answering questions about her past. One assertion floating around is an alleged abuse of power in the removal of a government official.
Since Nixon’s Watergate scandal every cover up, smear, and skeleton in the closet of a politician has been dubbed with gate as a suffix. In true tiresome media fashion Sarah Palin has a -gate of her own, “Troopergate."
The Democrats now have a Republican Vice President target on which to aim scrutiny. Sarah Palin’s removal of Public Safety Commisioner, Walter Monegan, has been deemed an abuse of power by some. Indeed the action raised eyebrows and prompted an investigation.
Hold on to your seats as this two part article will be a lengthy review of the happenings in “Troopergate," that the mainstream media will most likely boil down to soundbites.
The whole debacle started back in 2005 when Sarah Palin’s brother-in-law was involved in a domestic dispute with her sister. He was under investigation as of April 2005 with a two year old allegation of misconduct involving a family member. During the investigation Sarah Palin was interviewed about the verbal abuse of her sister as well as a threat made on her father’s life.
Mike Wooten an Alaska State Trooper was described as being in a rage over a divorce he initiated with Molly (McCann) Wooten, Sarah’s sister. The divorce was messy with a hugely contested custody dispute. Molly had called Sarah and told her she was afraid and said she would leave an open phone connection so Sarah could listen in on the fight incase it became physical. During the interview (troopers notes on interview) she relayed information about threats Mike made such as:
“If your dad helps you through this divorce he’s gonna, he’s gonna eat an F’n lead bullet."
and
“I’m gonna take your sister down. I’m gonna ruin your family. know people in all the right places, in high places. I know judges. I know attorneys. I have relationships with these guys. You guys are all going down."
Great behavior for a State Trooper ehh??
The fight did not become physical and because of that no police officers were called in to investigate the domestic violence dispute. Sarah Palin said she also knew Mike’s job would be on the line if she reported him. The death threat has not been substantiated by a neutral party and therefore has not been further investigated.
Another set of interviews conducted later in 2005 with both Todd and Sarah Palin showed more abuses of power, this time while he was at a bar with his “girlfriend." While at the bar and off duty Mike flashed his badge and demanded that another patron be removed. There were also instances of two different DUI’s one for Mike and one for his “girlfriend” which were never charged.
Then on August 10, 2005 Sarah sent an e-mail to Col. Julia Grimes about the integrity of the Alaska State Troopers and how Mike Wooten poorly represented the office.
The investigation into Mike Wooten wrapped up in March of 2006. The investigation lead to a 10 day suspension. This suspension was not the first disciplinary action taken against Officer Wooten.
The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable, and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession,â Col. Julia Grimes, then head of Alaska State Troopers, wrote in March 1, 2006, letter suspending Wooten for 10 days. After the union protested it, the suspension was reduced to five days.
She warned that if he messed up again, heâd be fired.
The investigation into Mike Wooten began about two months before Sarah Palin launched her campaign for Governor.
-part2-
Sarah Palin’s firing of appointed Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan has come under scrutiny time and time again in the media. However, the soundbite media has not covered the case completely.
Buy an ad on DigitalJournal.com
Troopergate started in July 2008 with the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan. However, the real scrutiny did not begin till Andrew Halcro, the independent gubernatorial candidate who lost the 2006 Alaskan election to Palin, posted the allegation on his blog that the most disturbing reasoning behind Monegan’s firing was the situation with Mike Wooten.
It bears to note that the Public Safety Commissioner is appointed by the Governor to enact the policies specified by the Governor. If the Governor, at any time, does not feel an appointed employee is meeting the expectations or backing the policies of the Governor, the Governor may terminate employment.
The allegations discussed on Halcro’s blog have been bouncing around the media and blogger trampoline. However some digging has pulled up misinterpreted facts and speculation as well as what some have perceived as outright lies.
The initial reason for firing was a cited disagreement over budgeting as well as trooper recruitment and moral. Sarah Palin and Walter Monegan butted heads over the departmental vs. State affairs and budget allotment for programs some felt were needed to improve the AST Department.
Now an internal investigation is being held into the reasoning behind Monegan’s dismissal in light of evidence that a state government aide and Todd Palin discussed Mike Wooten with Walter Monegan.
Pressure from the Governor, Her Staff, and Her Family
It came to light during investigation that Frank Bailey called one of Monegans associates at the State Troopers office about Mike Wooten. The phone call can be heard here. The phone call was 24 minutes and discussed union business before the problem with Mike Wooten.
Frank Bailey claims he did not act on order from the Governor.
Frank Bailey, the boards and commissions director, told The Associated Press he acted on his own â and not on behalf of Palin or her husband, Todd â when he called Ketchikan-based Lt. Rodney Dial, pushing for the firing of Trooper Mike Wooten.
âThere was never any direction by the governor, never any direction by Todd to make the call or to make any call to DPS on this stuff,â Bailey said.
Todd Palin also contacted Monegan about Trooper Wooten. The governor’s office released a statement to clarify Todd’s involvement in the case.
Monegan has also raised questions about the propriety of the First Gentleman, Todd Palin, meeting with Monegan right after the Governor was elected to discuss security concerns surrounding a state trooper. That meeting occurred following standard questioning of any newly-elected Governor and First Family members regarding security detail concerns. The First Gentleman was specifically told to meet with Monegan by the Governorâs top security detail, Special Agent Bob Cockrell, to forward serious concerns that were substantiated in an internal trooper investigation. The concerns regarding the trooper included: using a Taser stun gun on his stepson, illegally killing a moose and driving with an open container in his patrol car. The First Gentleman also expressed concern over death threats made against a family member by the trooper.
âWhen made aware of the security concerns regarding a state trooper, I instructed the First Gentleman to contact the commissioner of Public Safety,â Cockrell said. âIt is standard protocol to ask every governor about any threats they perceive or have realized. I will not hesitate to set the record straight in answering these false allegations by former Commissioner Monegan.â
Cockrell, who joined the Alaska State Troopers in 1963, started with the Office of the Governor in 1983, under Governor Bill Sheffield. He is now serving his sixth governor.
In response to the accusations, the Governor’s office released an internal audit that concluded that some aids did make unauthorized phone calls about Wooten, but Sarah Palin was not only not involved, but also denounced any action.
The Reasons for Firing Monegan
According to Alaskan Pride:
Palin has been under heavy criticism since firing former Department of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. However, she also disclosed three reasons why she fired Monegan (I listened to the press conference in part on KFQD and specifically took down this information).
- He was not making headway on achieving key goals such as resolving the trooper shortfall.
- He was not making satisfactory progress on resolving alcohol issues.
- He was not a team player in regards to budget issues.
But recognizing his previous experience in dealing with alcohol issues, particularly in Bush Alaska, Governor Palin did not want to remove Monegan from the administration altogether, but to place him in charge of the Alcoholic Beverage Control board, where he could combine his rural expertise with a full-time focus on alcohol issues. Nevertheless, Monegan elected not to accept the post, and left the administration instead. Monegan continues to maintain he was pressured by Palinâs family and the administration to fire Trooper Wooten.

Actually that behavior does fall into a norm for State Troopers. To teach then to be gentlemen you would have to scape them all and remind them once again that they are hired public servants.
S. Palin is one of the finest women in politics that there is, her reputation protraying a barbie in a bikini with a shotgun in hand is amusing to say the very least. Ans since, thanks to Mahjoob the world has seen my bikini, you should know that I’ve also taken on Rock n Rolls finest gun slinging trooper with my own experience, I had the awards at eight and a proper ten. Dodge that.
I find it all amusing right now, the number of people involved. The issues and yet the technique still workd isn’t that right M&M, sometimes in my favorite fantasies I promise myself that they did that just for me.
She’ll be fine as long as she stops biting at Putin. Who is perrrrrrrrrrrfectly aware of everything and welcome.

Open your eyes America
Sara Palin is the best thing that ever happened to the Republican Party and the USA. She is an experienced leader, Governor of the State of Alaska. She is sharp , smart and beautiful. David Frum’s written speeches were only misleading. Deja vu smearers and twisters, just to make a buck.

A Debate âModeratorâ in the Tank for Obama
Wednesday, October 01, 2008 - My dictionary defines âmoderatorâ as âthe nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting.â
]
On Thursday, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill will serve as moderator for the first and only vice presidential debate. The stakes are high. The Commission on Presidential Debates, with the assent of the two campaigns, decided not to impose any guidelines on her duties or questions. But there is nothing âmoderateâ about where Ifill stands on Barack Obama. Sheâs so far in the tank for the Democratic presidential candidate, her oxygen delivery line is running out.
In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the debate. She would be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on Jan. 20, 2009 — a date that just happens to coincide with the inauguration of the next president of the United States. The title of Ifillâs book? âThe Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.â Nonpartisan my foot. Random House, her publisher, is already busy hyping the book with YouTube clips of Ifill heaping praise on her subjects, including Obama and Obama-endorsing Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick. The official promo for the book gushes:
âIn âThe Breakthrough,â veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obamaâs stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power. ⦠Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Sen. Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the âblack enoughâ conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.â
Ifill and her publisher are banking on an Obama/Biden win to buoy her book sales. The moderator expected to treat both sides fairly has grandiosely declared this the âAge of Obama.â Can you imagine a right-leaning journalist writing a book about the âstunningâ McCain campaign and its âboldâ path to reform timed for release on Inauguration Dayâand then expecting a slot as a moderator for the nationâs sole vice presidential debate? Yeah, I just registered 6.4 on the Snicker Richter Scale, too.

Skepticism of Palin growing, poll finds
Thurs., Oct. 2, 2008 - Fewer than half of voters think she understands 'complex issues'
]
With the vice presidential candidates set to square off today in their only scheduled debate, public assessments of Sarah Palin’s readiness have plummeted, and she may now be a drag on the Republican ticket among key voter groups, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Tonight’s heavily anticipated debate comes just five weeks after the popular Alaska governor entered the national spotlight as Sen. John McCain’s surprise pick to be his running mate. Though she initially transformed the race with her energizing presence and a fiery convention speech, Palin is now a much less positive force: Six in 10 voters see her as lacking the experience to be an effective president, and a third are now less likely to vote for McCain because of her.
A month ago, voters rated Palin as highly as they did McCain or his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, but after weeks of intensive coverage and several perceived missteps, the shine has diminished. Nearly a third of adults in a new poll from the Pew Research Center said they paid a lot of attention to Palin’s interviews with CBS News’s Katie Couric, a series that prompted grumbling among some conservative commentators about Palin’s competency to be the GOP’s vice presidential standard-bearer. The Pew poll showed views of Palin slipping over the past few days alone.
In the new Post-ABC poll, Palin matches the Democratic vice presidential candidate, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., on empathy, one of McCain’s clear deficits against Obama, while fewer than half of voters think she understands “complex issues." But it is the experience question that may prove her highest hurdle, particularly when paired with widespread public concern about McCain’s age. About half of all voters said they were uncomfortable with the idea of McCain taking office at age 72, and 85 percent of those voters said Palin does not have the requisite experience to be president.

She has gone after graft and corruption in government even with her own party!
She has taken on big oil and won concessions for the avarage Alaskan.
But hey you know what your talking about right?
Right?
Pfft yea right.
