Vikings put spat between Diggs, Rhodes behind them

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs and cornerback Xavier Rhodes, who were absent from practice on Wednesday due to disciplinary reasons, are back in the good graces of coach Mike Zimmer.

"There was no time out," Zimmer said, per the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I just decided to do what I did. Everything is good."

Diggs, who was signed to a five-year contract extension last month, and Rhodes exchanged words in practice on Tuesday after the former caught a 50-yard pass from Kirk Cousins and launched the ball into the stands. The heated exchange between the two carried over into Wednesday's walkthrough before Zimmer opted to take action.

Although Zimmer terms the behavior of the players "juvenile," both Diggs and Rhodes attempted to downplay the incident on Thursday.

"We go at it, but it's all love," Diggs told reporters. "It's a family thing here."

Rhodes chalked it up to a natural "competitive nature" on the field.

"I didn't want to lose. He didn't want to lose," said Rhodes. "It's stuff like that if you have a sibling you grow up with and he does something you don't like and then something tends to go off."

The Vikings will have a chance to vent their frustrations on opposing players Saturday (9 p.m. ET) when they face the Denver Broncos in a preseason contest.

"It's that time of camp to go play against somebody else," offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said. "The defense knows our calls, we know their calls. It's getting a little chippy out there. It's time to take some chippiness out on somebody else."
